This e-book is a compilation of Civil War stories by Chuck Baily. This e-book contains Appendix information not available in the physical book edition. The digital edition is compatible with most e-readers.
In your hands are unique stories of local Greene County Union Civil War soldiers. Joshua Rice served in the 7th West Virginia Infantry Regiment (originally the 7th Virginia). Isaac Scherich served in the 18th Regiment, Pennsylvania Cavalry. Often, it’s the generals who get the last word and shape the way we understand the particulars of the conflicts they led. But you will be reading accounts of “lowly” privates.
Certainly, anyone interested in Civil War history will thoroughly enjoy these. But if you or your ancestors lived in this area, turn to page 129 and review the index of our Greene county soldiers who served in the 18th Pennsylvania. It still reads like our phone book today. If you don’t see your own last name on the list, you will certainly see the last names of some of your friends and neighbors. Maybe there is a connection.
Also, these two memoirs offer much more than a history lesson. You will actually get to know, and in a real sense walk alongside each of these young men. You will come away with renewed respect for how they faced up to their individual chal- lenges. And their stories provide valuable insights into what it was like for their fellow soldiers as well.
A final note. 100% of the price of this book will go to the nonprofit who is selling it.
